Demeri Followed began in May of 2001 when two bored people got together and started teaching each other to play the guitar. They would sit for hours, trying to learn what they could from a chord encyclopedia. As they slowly began to develop their abilities, Matthew and Aaron (A.K.A. Jack) regularly practiced playing cover songs from some of their old favorite bands (counting crows, the cure, etc).

Time went on, and they became discontent with only playing music that other people wrote, so to help them be more original and expressive, they began creating some of their own musical content. At first, the songs were very basic and simple. In addition to that, they were unnaturally long, and lacking chorus and organization. What was even worse was that the music didn't impress the girls :) A majority of the time, the songs didn't make any sense lyrically or otherwise, which only added to the frustrations of being beginners at songwriting.

Circumstance inflicted a difficult patch that for a while, drove Aaron and Matthew in separate directions. Their music suffered, as well as their friendship. They both faced many trials and struggles in their separate lives, but eventually it all became a motivation to once again express themselves through music as a reunited piece.

Matthew and Jack went back to playing their favorite cover songs in the hope that it would spark a gift. Matthew spent days at a time writing out massive guitar tabs of Dashboard Confessional songs, some of which are actually available on this site (Many were lost). The acquired knowledge of alternate tunings and chord structure turned his hobby of composing tablature into a better understanding of songwriting altogether (or so he would like to think).

As a duo "band", Matthew and Aaron spent their evenings recording, the best of which were the spontaneous songs. In June of 2003, Matthew left for Texas while Aaron stayed in California for school and whatnot. On June 2, 2004, Matthew had his first child, a girl named Satory Noel. In January or February of 2005 or sooner, Matthew will move back to California and he and Aaron will record the material they have written while apart. Their mutual gain in life experience and maturity will undoubtedly have an important influence on their passion for making music, and the sound of the music itself.
